The Greenville 200 Nascar Race (1971 Video)

In the long tradition of Nascar racing, the Upstate happened to be a unique part of it’s history. The Greenville 200 was the first race to air from start to finish on national television. It was aired on ABC Wide World of Sports.

It was held at Greenville-Pickens speedway on April 10th, 1971. Legendary Nascar driver Richard Petty happened to be a part of this race.

The Greenville-Pickens Speedway is currently going through an uncertain future. While WYFF4 noted that it was under contract, the broker stated a deal has closed yet.

With each new video I stumble upon, it’s cool to find out lots of interesting things have happened in the Upstate over the years..
